I’m not good at keeping up with things. I forget to take my vitamins, I forget to thaw chicken for tomorrow’s dinner, I forget to work out, I forget to call friends. I make to-do lists that I forget to look at, and sometimes I’m so unmotivated I write down easy tasks that I can cross off to feel more productive: “Get the mail”, “clean off your desk”, “poop”.
I get easily overwhelmed and then the dreaded anxiety kicks in. My mom is the exact opposite. She has a specific day and a specific time of day for the things she needs to do. She doesn’t even think twice about it- she just does stuff, then still manages to get dinner on the table before 6:30!
So I dropped the ball on Inktober…
I can never figure out a costume ahead of time for Halloween. There’s even more “pressure” when you’re a couple, so more than likely I’ll stress about it all the way up to Halloween, then do nothing. What are your costume plans this year? I’d love to hear about it!
- Every year I get excited for October, for the fall season and Halloween. “I’m going to decorate, make pumpkin bread, build a monster for my brother’s Halloween party, make costumes for Michael and I, host my mom’s birthday…) Then inevitably every year I get stressed out and don’t do any of that (except my mom’s bday).I’ve never been prepared with an outfit for Halloween, which means I always end up throwing together a panic costume (How many stuffed animals can I pack into my T-shirt? Do I have any fake mustaches? What about fake teeth?). My costume always ends up leaving people confused and/or uncomfortable, which is the general state in which I like to leave people.
Last year I dressed up as a crazy old man with a blond frizzy wig, and ran around telling everyone my name was “Old Jeff” in a raspy voice. “I’m OLD JEFF gimmie a kish!” No one had any idea who I was, so that was loads of fun!
This comic short story only took me about an hour to sketch a first draft, then 45 HOURS to complete. So that’s mostly what I’ve been doing for the past two weeks. Whew!I hope you enjoy! Don’t forget to stock up on candy before the trick o’ treaters come knocking!

- I’m an adult (well, that might be a little debatable) who still gets scared of the dark. Hallways, closets and under the bed are all full of monsters just waiting for me to turn my back. Welcome to my nightmare… don’t run; it only makes them want to chase you MORE. (this is a slider image, click the arrow to view full comic)Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!<3 Jess
This has pretty much been me all week…
I’m going to attempt something very bold that I’ve never done before: a 31 day drawing challenge.
The Inktober drawings will be posted on my crunchy bunny instagram account; @crunchybunnycomics.
I don’t know if I can keep up with a drawing a day along with all the other stuff I’m working on, but I’m going to try. Because I want to improve and pushing yourself to accomplish a goal is a good way to do that.
If you’ve thought about doing Inktober, hit me up on email or social media, let’s do it together!
I’m one of ‘those people’ who just loves fall and can’t get enough. I started decorating in September when it was still 99 degrees outside. No shame! Now I’m on the hunt for some real pumpkins, and some good hearty, fall recipes. And of course lots of spice and pumpkin scented candles. You can never have enough candles (especially when you live in an older home <3 ).
Lately I’ve been listening to Jake Parker while I draw and he was talking about Inktober. He originally designed the Inktober challenge (one ink drawing a day for the month of October) to develop your inking skills and go back to the basics of drawing – without an “undo” button. Apparently some folks were outraged and took that to mean that their digital work was not valid. People are silly. We all get offended so easily, don’t we?
My (soon to be) little sister-in-law (11) has taken up a great interest in art, and has been drawing on every piece of paper she can get her hands on. She’s been asking me for advice and critiques on her artwork. It’s pretty fun because I see so much of my younger self in her. A few weeks ago…
